Mycobacterium smegmatis JS623


Mycobacterium smegmatis JS623 is a bio-friendly environmental strain that grows on vinyl chloride using it as a source of carbon and energy (Jin et al., 2010). Thus, M. smegmatis JS623 plays a major role in bioremediation process and is essential for the environmental clean-up. The genome was sequenced at the DOE Joint Genome Institute and has a high GC content of 65.14% (http://img.jgi.doe.gov/cgi-bin/w/main.cgi).
